Excimer Laser Refractive Surgery

As this treatment (commonly referred to in the media as laser eye surgery) is usually carried out in the private sector we are not able to recommend clinics, surgeons or their costs. Clinics are not required to register with any national organisation and because of this there is not a list of clinics available.

We suggest that you discuss the matter with your general practitioner and optometrist who may have local information.

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists has introduced an assessment in laser refractive surgery which leads to a certificate of competence to practise, subject to satisfactory yearly appraisals and continuing professional development. This certificate applies only to refractive procedures performed by laser.

Further details are available on the following Laser Refractive Surgery page.
