The Royal College of Ophthalmologists offers a wide range of travel awards and clinical/research fellowships, details of which are listed below.

Please be advised that all travel awards and clinical/research fellowships will be advertised in College News prior to application forms being made available.

Awards

Fight For Sight Award

Applications are invited from young ophthalmologists and scientists working in the field of ophthalmology throughout the UK for The Fight for Sight Award 2010 of £5,000.

Clinical /Research Fellowships

International Glaucoma Association Research Awards
We are pleased to announce that £100,000 has generously been made available for two further IGA research awards in 2010. Applicants may be trainees seeking support for a fellowship or senior researchers seeking a grant for a project. Applications are invited from departments and individuals based in UK or Eire but the research studies may be carried out elsewhere.

Scholarships


Keeler Scholarship up to £20,000
Applications are invited for this Scholarship, the purpose of which is to enable the Keeler Scholar, for the subsequent benefit of ophthalmology in the UK, to study, research or acquire special skills, knowledge or experience at a suitable location in the United Kingdom or elsewhere for a minimum period of six months.Applicants must be Fellows, Members or Affiliates of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, those Fellows, Members and Affiliates being in good standing.
Applicants may apply retrospectively but should not be more than 3 months into the fellowship for which they are applying for support by 12 February 2010 (application closing date).

Pfizer Ophthalmic Fellowship up to £35,00

Applications are invited for the above Fellowship to enable an ophthalmologist to acquire special skills, knowledge and experience at a suitable location in the United Kingdom or elsewhere for a minimum period of six months; the clinical fellowship should enable the successful applicant to make a significant impact on specialist clinical services locally after completion of the fellowship.

Applicants must be Fellows, Members or Affiliates of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, those Fellows, Members and Affiliates being in good standing.

Applicants may apply retrospectively but should not be more than 3 months into the fellowship for which they are applying for support by 12 February 2010 (application closing date).

Travel Awards

Patrick Trevor-Roper Undergraduate Travel Award

Applications are invited for this award in Ophthalmology, which is open to all undergraduate medical students from the UK and Eire only with an interest in the subspecialty. There are two awards to be made annually, each for the sum of £550. This money can be used to fund electives in Ophthalmology and may be spent on travelling or subsistence.

Dorey Bequest and Sir William Lister Travel Awards
Applications are invited for these awards which are for ophthalmologists in training who are citizens of the United Kingdom as well as Members and Fellows of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, in good standing. There are generally four awards of £300 - £600 made each year.

Ethicon Foundation Fund

Applications are invited for grants from the Ethicon Foundation Fund. The fund was established by the generosity of Ethicon Limited for the purpose of promoting international goodwill in ophthalmology by providing financial assistance to Fellows or Members of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists who are travelling abroad for research or training. Please note that retrospective applications will not be accepted.
