This is our first online Training Directory and marks the move from the printed version previously published to a more succinct, web based document. Ophthalmic Specialty Training was introduced in 2007 and has become a well organised scheme taking trainees from Foundation Year to inclusion on the Ophthalmic Specialist Register. The development of Schools of Ophthalmology within Deaneries have centralised those involved in training. With the inclusion of each Head of School on the Training Committee, the College plays a pivotal role in National ophthalmic training.
In April 2010 PMETB merged with the GMC to create a single regulator for medical education with the aim of providing a seamless and consistent approach to medical education and training. The Gold Guide for Postgraduate Training has been updated in 2010 and provides a detailed guide to regulation of postgraduate training.
I would like to thank all those of you that provide the College with current information and the Education and Training Department staff for collating all the submitted data. Now that this document is online it will be easier to amend and I would encourage all College members to correct or update local information by contacting the Education and Training Department.
