European Sub-Committee
Purpose
To act as a conduit between the College and European organisations To represent, support and communicate with European members and fellows. Support training and education of European doctors (access to exams, congress, curriculum, skills centre, courses, fellowships etc.) as per our Charter via representation on: European Union of Medical Specialties (UEMS) http://www.uems.net/ represents national associations of medical specialists in the European Union (EU) with its associated countries, and subspecialty interests through its Specialty Sections (of which there are 37, including ophthalmology). Two delegates are nominated by their national ophthalmological societies from each country of the EU, Norway and Switzerland to sit on the UEMS Specialty Section of Ophthalmology. The UEMS is responsible for developing and harmonising CME, professional development, and quality assurance in medical practice. European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) http://www.ebo-online.org/ebo_home.htmlis the permanent education and training working group of the UEMS Specialty Section of Ophthalmology and has specifically been given the task of overseeing the standard and policies of postgraduate ophthalmology training across the EU. Two delegates are nominated from each country of the EU, Norway and Switzerland by their national ophthalmological societies. European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE) http://www.soevision.org/50_years/ The Society's mission is to become the central point of European ophthalmology in the wider geographical Europe through education but also by fostering closer collaboration with Sub-specialty societies and Supranational organisations within Europe and beyond. The European Sub-committee reports to the Executive Committee.
