Are you interested in teaching?

 Do you wish to develop your assessor skills and knowledge of Workplace Based Assessments (WpBAs), ARCPs and examinations?

Are you responsible for Educational Supervision or Appraisals?

 The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is offering a 4 day Training the Trainers course for ophthalmologists involved in postgraduate teaching in the UK.

The course will be of particular use to Programme Directors, College Tutors and Educational Supervisors.

Each day covers a range of modules relating to postgraduate teaching specific to ophthalmology.

Day 1 - What to teach and How to teach – This day covers adult learning theory, running a teaching session and tips for lectures.

Suitable for: Consultants and trainees at any level including foundation doctors.

Day 2 - Feedback, Appraisal & Teaching Practical Skills – This day covers teaching practical skills (through theory, demonstration and group work), appraisal and feedback. You will have the opportunity to deliver a 5 minute presentation and give feedback on the presentations.

Suitable for: Consultants and for trainees ST1 and above, please note that this day is not suitable for foundation doctors.

Day 3 - Assessment – This day will cover assessor skills, Workplace Based Assessment (WpBA), ARCPs and examinations.

Suitable for: Consultants and for trainee’s year 6 or above.

Day 4 - Problem Solving and the Trainee in Difficulty – This day covers the symptoms signs an causes of the trainee in difficulty and strategies for dealing with the trainee in difficulty. There is also an opportunity to take part in an interactive session and each group will tackle scenarios based on the trainee in difficulty. 

Suitable for: Consultants involved in training.

There is no obligation for delegates to attend all four days however delegates cannot attend for a half day at a time.

The fee is £300 (including VAT at standard rate) for each day for consultants/staff grade doctors.

The fee is £240 (including VAT at standard rate)) for each day for trainees.

Places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. There are 15 places available per day. A place on the course will not be secured without payment.
