The Award of the CCT Sub-group at its meetings four times a year (March, June, September and December) discuss the award of the CCT of those trainees who have completed their training.
The Sub-group examines the trainee's surgical log book, application form (available from the Department), cumulative data sheet, RITA Form G, confirmation of passing The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Fellowship Assessment or The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Specialty Fellowship Examination if applicable and regional assessments undertaken throughout training. The names of those trainees that satisfy the requirements for the award of the CCT are then put forward to the Training Committee for ratification. Thereafter, the list of names is then sent to the Postgraduate Medical Education Training Board (PMETB) which issues the person with the certificate and forwards their name to the General Medical Council (GMC) so that they are added to the Specialist Register.
Please note for non-members there is an administrative fee for the processing of the Award of the CCT. As of 1 April 2008 this fee is £250+VAT.Please note, if you entered into Higher Specialist Training (HST) in ophthalmology after 31 March 1997 you must have passed the Fellowship Assessment of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists or the Specialty Fellowship Examination of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and have had your RITA G assessment before being considered for the award of the CCT. Please see the examinations section of the website for more information on the Fellowship Assessment.
For the Sub-group to consider the award of your CCT in good time, the Head of the Education and Training Department will write to you six months before your date is imminent. Please make sure you keep the Education and Training Department up to date with your change of address. Failure to notify us could mean the delay of your CCT.
Your name must be on the Specialist Register before you take up your consultant post so it is of paramount importance that you sort out your paperwork for the Training Committee promptly. If you have any further queries relating to the CCT please contact the Head of the Education and Training Department.
