Guidance from The Royal College of Ophthalmologists for obtaining educational approval for medical training posts in ophthalmology

Up to 30 September 2005 this educational approval was granted by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists through its Training Committee.

From 30 September 2005 the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) is the legal body for granting approval for training and this includes recognition of individual training posts and training programmes.

The process therefore now requires the Training Committee of the RCOphth to assess the proposal and make its recommendation to PMETB, which then makes a final decision on whether to grant educational approval.
