Deaneries in England and Wales are looking at and implementing the development of a new management structure in the form of Schools of postgraduate medical training.
The Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Lead Dean for Ophthalmology recommend that Ophthalmology is a single School.

For smaller Deaneries the structure and personnel of a School may not be significantly different from the present Specialist Training Committee in Ophthalmology. For larger Deaneries there may be significant differences to the present structures.
