New funding from Health Education England for recovery of training programme
27 May 2021
For England Only
Health Education England has published a statement to announce funding secured from the Department of Health & Social Care to support the recovery and reform plan for training programmes.
The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is delighted to welcome recognition that this vital work needs investment to support our doctors in training.
RCOphth understand that the funding is on a first come, first serve basis and we are urging deaneries to apply for funds to reset recovery in local areas and meet the needs of ophthalmologists in training. The dedicated fund will support employers to deliver these training recovery solutions, address trainees’ learning needs, support trainees with their individual training recovery plans and develop both trust-level recovery solutions and potentially support training in the independent sector.
How the funding can be accessed is unclear, but we are advising that all those involved in training, apply for funding through their trust Medical Director of Education or via their Deanery Heads of Schools.
Funding can be applied for equipment, technology or any activity that supports the success of the ‘training reset, recovery and reform’ initiative:
- Digital technology/training platforms
- Training arms in theatre (this may be of benefit if trainees to attend for cataract surgery training in the Independent Sector)
The RCOphth would like to hear if your funding applications have been successful. We would like to share case studies and the successful implementation of investment. Please get in touch with [email protected] .
It is vital that we are all doing our best to get training programmes back on track, maintained at the high standards we set and to ensure our trainee doctors are fully supported, including their wellbeing. RCOphth will also continue to encourage our trainees to speak with their educational supervisor or training programme director in a one-to-one conversation to plan for their training recovery.
