About us
The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is the membership body for eye doctors. We support ophthalmologists throughout their careers and work to improve eye care for patients. Our members deliver more than eight million outpatient appointments each year, around 10% of all outpatient appointments in the UK.
Our staff, officers, committees and members work together to maintain high standards in clinical practice, examinations, training and professional development. We also help shape policy and influence decisions that affect eye care services and the ophthalmic workforce.
We work closely with organisations across the eye health sector, including the NHS, the General Medical Council, charities and government bodies.
