Our museum preserves the history of ophthalmology through a collection of instruments, books and artefacts spanning more than 300 years of eye care.
Museum highlights
The museum features more than 200 historic artefacts across four key displays:
- evolution of cataract surgery
- surgical equipment through the ages
- teaching, measuring, examining and vision testing
- curiosities from ophthalmic history.
The collection includes rare ophthalmic instruments dating back to the 18th century and more than 600 antiquarian books from the 17th century onwards.
Visiting the collection
The museum is not open for public access, but visits can be arranged by appointment.
