Trustee Board

Mohamed Elalfy was elected President in 2026. He is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He has held a range of College leadership roles, including Honorary Treasurer, Regional Representative, Senior Examiner and Co-Lead for the Portfolio Pathway. He brings extensive clinical, educational and NHS leadership experience to the Board.

Dilani Siriwardena is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital specialising in glaucoma. She has led service innovation locally and nationally, including the development of virtual clinics and community diagnostic pathways. A Council member since 2022, she became Vice President in 2025 and brings significant experience in clinical leadership, education and service improvement.

Andrew Lotery is Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Southampton and medical retina lead at University Hospital Southampton. He has held several senior College roles, including Editor of Eye and Chair of the Scientific Committee. He brings extensive experience in clinical research, innovation and academic leadership.

Anthony Carey is a Senior Adviser (Board Practice and Public Policy) at Forvis Mazars and a chartered accountant and chartered director. He has extensive experience in governance, finance and risk management across higher education, healthcare and the charity sector. His expertise helps support the College's financial stewardship and long-term sustainability.

Vikas Chadha is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Tennent Institute, Glasgow, specialising in ocular oncology and oculoplastics. He is Training Programme Director for the West of Scotland and previously chaired the College's Curriculum Subcommittee. He brings expertise in training, curriculum development and workforce development.

Melanie Corbett is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Western Eye Hospital specialising in cornea, ocular surface and anterior segment surgery. As Chair of Education, she leads key College initiatives in training, digital learning and professional development. She brings extensive experience in education, teaching and curriculum delivery.

Stephen Jones has more than 35 years' experience in healthcare, higher education and professional membership organisations. A Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, he has held leadership and governance roles across the NHS, academia and the voluntary sector. He brings valuable independent oversight and governance expertise to the Board.

Swetha Maddula-Batambuze is a Specialty Doctor at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust with specialist interests in glaucoma, paediatrics and cataract surgery. As Chair of the College's Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) Subcommittee, she represents the interests of SAS doctors and supports greater engagement and inclusion across the profession.

Paul Stennett is a former Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) with extensive experience in governance, regulation and quality assurance. He has also held trustee and non-executive roles across the healthcare sector and brings significant organisational leadership expertise to the Board.

Associate Professor Darren Ting is a UK-accredited, dual-trained, clinical academic Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty expertise in Cornea, Ocular Surface, Cataract and Refractive Surgery. His career is distinguished by a unique blend of clinical and surgical excellence, cutting-edge research, and a commitment to training, education and mentorship.

Colin Vize is a Consultant Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgeon at Hull and East Yorkshire Eye Hospital. He is Honorary President of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Hull York Medical School. As Chair of the Quality, Audit and Standards Committee, he leads work to support high-quality, safe ophthalmic care.

Christopher is a trainee in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Region with a passion for all things anterior segment. He has presented at numerous national and international meetings, has published in high impact journals and is very active in local and national teaching.
