Treating-Retinopathy-of-prematurity-in-the-UK executive summary (PDF)

Access guidance and supporting resources on the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Includes the full clinical guideline, executive summary and patient information leaflet for parents and carers.

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a potentially sight-threatening condition affecting premature and low birth weight infants. Early identification and timely treatment are essential to reduce the risk of permanent visual impairment.

This resource hub brings together RCOphth guidance and supporting materials on the treatment of ROP. It includes the full evidence-based clinical guideline, a concise executive summary of recommendations and a patient information leaflet designed to support discussions with parents and carers.

The guidance was developed by The Royal College of Ophthalmologists in partnership with the UK special interest group of ROP screeners and treaters (ROP-SIG), Bliss and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH). It provides recommendations on treatment thresholds, timing of intervention, treatment modalities and follow-up care within UK clinical practice.

Healthcare professionals should consult the full guideline for the complete evidence base supporting the recommendations.
