We are inviting professionals involved in delivering, supporting or commissioning ophthalmic genomic services to comment on our draft Genomic Services Guidance for Ophthalmology.
Genomic testing is playing an increasingly important role in the diagnosis and management of inherited eye conditions. Our new guidance proposes a three-tier model for delivering ophthalmic genomic services across the UK, with different levels of expertise and specialist support according to patient and service needs.
We want to make sure the proposed model is not only clinically appropriate, but can be implemented safely, consistently and sustainably in practice.
We welcome responses from ophthalmologists and the wider ophthalmic workforce, clinical genetics and genomics professionals, NHS service leaders and commissioners, and relevant professional, academic and research organisations.
Within the survey, there is a separate consultation for patients, patient organisations and other lay respondents.
We particularly want your views on:
- the proposed three-tier service model and access to specialist support
- multidisciplinary working and proportionate consent
- workforce, education and infrastructure requirements
- funding, commissioning and practical implementation
- whether the recommendations will work across all four UK nations and support equitable access to care.
