Overview

  • Recognise your role in the management of vulnerable patients, interceding in the best interests of the patient, even if there is a conflict of opinion with other parties.
  • Consider whether specialised clinical management techniques may be required for those with special needs.
  • Liaise professionally with parent and carers, at all times being mindful of confidentiality issues, including in those under the age of 16, but competent to give consent.
  • Be aware of the possibility of non-accidental injury in vulnerable patients and know the appropriate local leads for onward referral.
  • Keep up-to-date with safeguarding training.
