Overview

  • Consider which features in a patient’s clinical picture will be significant in aiding your decision as to which case is most urgent; be aware that patients’ conditions are dynamic and you may need to reassess both the conditions and your priorities.
  • Identify which conditions will respond to rapid intervention, and remember the common algorithm to aid prioritisation: preserve sight, preserve function, relieve pain.
  • Ensure that you participate in regular formal emergency care sessions and are included in your department’s triaging of acute referrals.
