Membership types
Find the right membership type for you.
This is the most prestigious type of College membership and is suitable if you have passed the final Fellowship examinations, achieved registration on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register in the UK, or wish to recognise your professional achievements at the highest level in the UK or internationally. Fellows typically have more than seven years’ experience in ophthalmology.
Membership (MRCOphth) is suitable if you are a specialist doctor or working towards a consultant role. It recognises an important career milestone and allows you to use College post-nominals. Members typically have more than three years’ experience in ophthalmology.
This membership type is suitable for specialist doctors or ophthalmologists in training outside the UK Ophthalmic Specialist Training (OST) programme.
Join as a Trainee Affiliate if you are registered on the UK Ophthalmic Specialist Training (OST) programme.
Associate membership is suitable for undergraduate students, doctors within the first two years after their primary medical qualification, and aligned eye care professionals such as ophthalmic nurses, orthoptists and optometrists. In the UK, doctors in this stage of training are commonly known as Foundation Doctors.
