Ophthalmology is one of the first specialities in the UK to use a novel method of updating its original research priorities published in 2013 – Sight and Vision Loss Report.

The UK Clinical Eye Research Strategy, which was developed by a Working Group convened by the NIHR National Ophthalmology Specialty Group, was established in March 2020. Our five newly formed Clinical Study Groups (CSGs) have reviewed these original research priorities and assigned them to their respective CSG. The CSGs operate under the UK Clinical Eye Research Strategy.

This work resulted in 98 updated eye research priority questions spread across nine subspecialties. This will be available in a single survey questionnaire, which will be available at the end of April 2022.

The RCOphth Academic and Research Subcommittee encourages everyone to take part in this survey. It will help to establish some themes for ophthalmology research in the coming years, and this is your chance to have your say.

This survey is organised by the NIHR Ophthalmology Clinical Specialty Group and relates to patient-facing clinical research only.
