New report shows a majority of cataract surgery centres are delivering high quality care for patients in England and Wales – The first prospective annual report of the National Ophthalmology Database Audit

The first prospective National Ophthalmology Database (NOD) Audit report on cataract surgery in England and Wales looked at 120,722 cataract operations undertaken between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 by 55 English and 1 Welsh NHS cataract surgical centres. The report shows that cataract surgery centres are delivering high quality care to their patients.

Contributing surgeons and centres must validate their cataract audit data on the NOD audit website before 1 June 2017

Following the analysis of the first prospective audit data collected on cataract operations from 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016, contributing surgeons and centres will be able to view their data on the NOD audit website prior to inclusion in the Audit annual report and the Clinical Outcomes Publication. National Opthalmology Database (NOD) Audit Update

The data contributed in the first year (01 September 2015 – 31 August 2016) of the prospective audit is currently being cleaned and analysed by the NOD statistician. The audit report, which is expected to be published in March 2017 will include case complexity adjusted outcomes for surgical complications and visual acuity loss from cataract
