Significant events in ocular genetics

The sharing of genetic information with patients and their families may bring with it significant ethical dilemmas. Information, once given cannot be “un-known”. Considerable care may need to be taken to gain consent for the sharing of information within families.

Significant events relating to the operation of an ocular genetics service might include inadvertent breaches of confidentiality, or the delivery of information that later proves to be incorrect.
