Significant events in uveitis

Significant events relating to the operation of the service such as misdiagnosis or delayed follow up of a patient with uveitis should be reported via local reporting mechanisms and discussed at appraisal.

It is also appropriate to discuss significant complications of treatment, or severe visual loss due to uveitis. These occurrences do not necessarily imply any failing in the standard of care, but can help to inform future treatment.

Ophthalmologists with an interest in uveitis may from time to time prescribe unlicensed medications or licensed medications outside the terms of their product licences (for instance, biologics for severe posterior uveitis). Suspected adverse reactions to unlicensed medications or the off-label use of licensed medications should be reported using the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s reporting system.
