Overview

  • Research what information is available for your patients, their relatives and carers.
  • Consider the best format for the particular patient and information you are considering (leaflet, video, website, audio)?
  • Consider how patient support groups might help your patients. Be aware of user groups, especially local ones.
  • Review the internet resources available for patients with common eye conditions. Do they provide accurate information in a sensitive way? Are they commercially driven? Could you learn from them or suggest any improvements?
  • Be aware of what community social services are available to assist your patient in their rehabilitation.
  • Familiarise yourself with your Trust’s patient occupational therapy and rehabilitation process.
  • Ensure that other health workers working with you, and offering information to patients, are well informed.
  • Understand the information governance processes within your organisation for writing and approving information leaflets and offer to write or update information resources in your department.
