Overview

  • Understand the importance of teaching and be able to make a positive contribution to the undergraduate and postgraduate development of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in the field of ophthalmology.
  • Take opportunity to mentor, teach and train others, giving consideration to the optimum way to teach the subject matter and making use of teaching aids where appropriate. Collect and analyse feedback on your teaching.
  • Ensure that patient safety is maintained at all times when training is taking place.
  • Be aware of the needs of both service and training and consider how these are balanced.
  • Become familiar with the different forms of assessment and their roles in medical education.
  • Know how to identify and support a trainee in difficulty.
  • Consider attending a ‘Training the Trainers’ course.
