Annual Congress 2017


Monday 22 – Thursday 25 May 2017

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Annual Congress 2017 will be held at the Arena & Convention Centre (AAC), Liverpool and delivers a diverse scientific programme, providing delegates with an extensive range of topics delivered by prominent speakers from the UK and overseas.


The programme can be found on the dedicated Congress website and is also available via the app.

The #RCOphth2017 app is free to download on Android, IOS devices and through Microsoft Store. The app is also available through your internet browser.

This year, the Sub Specialty Day will be on Thursday 25 May. The five sessions are Cataract and Refractive Surgery Day, Emergency Ophthalmology & Primary Care Day, Glaucoma Day, Neuro-Ophthalmology Day and Retina Day.

On Tuesday 23 May, we will be hosting the ever popular Allied Professions Day. The programme is now available or download the flyer for further information. There are special registration rates for Allied Professions.

The College is pleased to welcome our four Eponymous Lecturers to this year’s Congress:

  • Professor Anya Hurlbert, University of Newcastle will deliver the Edridge Green Lecture entitled Individual differences in colour perception@ constancy and variance across the spectrum
  • Professor Ivan Schwab, University of California Davis School of Medicine will deliver the Keeler Lecture entitled The Evolution of Eyes  
  • Professor Keith Martin, University of Cambridge will give the Duke Elder Lecture entitled Glaucoma – A voyage of discovery
  • Professor Kay Dickersin, John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health will give the Optic UK Lecture entitled Transforming Ophthalmology: Leading the way in providing the best evidence for best practice
