Teaching and Enhanced Learning for Trainees + SAS Doctors (TTT)

This course will help teachers and trainers develop a variety of educational skills that will engage trainees and help them learn efficiently and effectively.  It is suitable for all trainees and SAS doctors. It is suitable for doctors involved in delivering teaching at any level and to any grade of staff.  It will help attendees to develop their skills and ideas further and provide educational and interesting teaching for learners. The course uses a blend of independent preparatory learning with intensively-facilitated practical sessions on the day.

This event will cover clinical knowledge and skills at a level appropriate for medical students in their clinical years. It’s a refresher course intended for medical students who want to cover the essential ophthalmology knowledge and core skills in a day. By the end of the day attendees should be able to safely assess patients presenting with an ophthalmic problem and make an appropriate management or referral decision.

Supervision for Ophthalmic Practitioner Training
Dates: 12/10/26 Location: London
This Training the Trainers (TTT) course is suitable for ophthalmologists, orthoptists, optometrists, Level 3 OPT learners and ophthalmic nurses who are experienced in education and would like to implement the Ophthalmic Practitioner Training (OPT) programme in their unit or region. After further training, delegates from this course will be able to roll out OPT training programmes in their departments and contribute to leading the provision of OPT training in their regions.

Introduction to ophthalmic surgery

This course is designed to serve as an introduction to ophthalmic surgery and gives trainees the opportunity to learn some of the core skills that form the building blocks of ophthalmic surgery. The focus is on hands-on practical experience with only short introductions to each topic and at least five hours of simulated surgery using the latest model eyes. The course is open to foundation doctors, medical students, overseas doctors, in fact anyone who is considering a career in ophthalmology.

Cataract Advance Training with Simulation course (CATS)
Date: 2 July Location: London

Delivered through high-fidelity simulation, this course provides an immersive, hands-on learning experience to build confidence in complex scenarios, including managing complications such as posterior capsule rupture, zonular weakness and small pupils, as well as secondary and toric IOL implantation. The course is aimed at senior trainees (ST5 – ST7) or trainees who have completed at least 250-300 cases as primary surgeon, Fellows, and Consultants.

Basic Phacoemulsification
Date: 23-24 July Location: London

This 2-day course is designed to serve as an introduction to phacoemulsification cataract surgery. This course is mandatory for doctors appointed to an ST1 or LAT post. Priority is given to these doctors. The course is also open to specialty doctors and any other staff grade doctors. It focuses on hands on practical training with only short introductions to each topic followed by practice on a variety of model eyes.

IOL Fixation

This is a  practical course which will cover a wide variety of IOL fixation techniques including iris clipped IOLs, sutured IOLs and scleral tunnel fixation. The content will be delivered using surgical videos and wet lab components.  This course is aimed mainly at consultants and very senior trainees.

Cornea Curriculum course
Date: 22-23 October Location: London

This is a surgical skills, two-day-course on Corneal transplantation  (penetrating keratoplasty, DALK, DSEK, PDEK and DMEK), and Common Corneal procedures (Suturing, gluing, Amniotic membrane suturing corneal laceration).Wet Lab training on common corneal procedures, PKP and DALK.  Suitable for mid-career trainees and early career consultants. Overseas doctors are welcome.
