We are sad to report that Michael Roper-Hall, Honorary Fellow of the College, died on 3 May at the age of 100.
Fondly described as ‘a legend of British and, in particular, Birmingham Ophthalmology’, Michael was a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital from 1957 to 1989. He was a world leader, pioneer and innovator in microsurgery of the eye.
Michael Roper-Hall was made an Honorary Fellow of the College in 1990. He gave his name to the Roper-Hall Eye Foundation, a Birmingham-based eye health charity.
We send our condolences to Michael’s family and friends.
