In recent months, College members have featured in a range of media outlets. By contributing their knowledge and expertise, they are helping to promote the College and its work, raising awareness of eye health and eye care issues, and advocating for positive patient outcomes.

Our new President, Mohamed Elalfy, was interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s In Touch, a weekly programme aimed at blind and partially-sighted people. Mohamed talked with presenter Peter White about the role of President of the College, his priorities for his term, and some of the exciting innovations on the horizon for ophthalmology.

In June, the Daily Mail ran an article about a woman’s experience of floaters and her subsequent treatment. The article included expert contributions from two of our Moorfields-based members: Mahi Muqit, a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and Louisa Wickham, a consultant vitreoretinal surgeon and NHS England’s National Clinical Director for Eye Care. Also quoted was Paulo-Eduardo Stanga, a professor of ophthalmology at University College London.

In May the Telegraph featured a story about NHS Online, the proposed ‘online hospital’ – aimed at reforming to the way healthcare is delivered in England. This included a quote from the then College President, Professor Ben Burton.

College Vice President, Dilani Siriwardena took part in a discussion about the importance of using sunglasses with UV protection on BBC Radio 4’s the World at One in April.

This issue was also covered by The Guardian. Alex Day, a consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields, contributed to the story.
