The Continued Professional Development (CPD) programme is open to all UK and Republic of Ireland Fellows, Affiliates and Members and is designed for all ophthalmologists whether or not they are employed within the NHS.
Events approved for CPD purposes should serve to maintain or enhance the knowledge, skills, personal and professional performance of all ophthalmologists who take part in them. They should meet an educational need and provide an effective learning experience.
As a surgical-based specialty, ophthalmology encompasses a wide range of operations and clinic-based procedures, requiring ophthalmologists to make use of micro-surgical techniques. Simulation training enables trainee ophthalmologists to master these skills before in vivo training.
Regional Educational Advisors (REAs) are the RCOphth’s senior representatives promoting excellence in training and the delivery of the Ophthalmic Specialist Training (OST) programme.
The College processes a significant number of CCT applications at any time.
The Portfolio Pathway route is an alternative certification of competence and a route to joining the GMC’s specialist register, in order to practice as a consultant in the NHS.
