Applications now open for National Medical Directors Clinical Fellowship Scheme

Applications are now open for the National Medical Directors Clinical Fellowship Scheme 2020/21. The scheme will provide doctors in training with the unique opportunity to spend a year working with reputable healthcare organisations to develop their skills in:

  • Leadership
  • Management
  • Strategy
  • Project management
  • Health policy

Fellows will be immersed in a range of health bodies, such as NHS England, NHS Improvement, Health Education England. The College will also be participating in the scheme and would encourage trainees to apply.

The scheme is sponsored by NHS England and NHS Improvement’s National Medical Director and is managed by the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.

Eligibility

The scheme is open to doctors in training from all specialties who have completed both years of foundation training by the start of the fellowship, commencing annually from 1 September. Candidates are eligible to apply providing they have full GMC registration and do not expect to gain CCT before 1 September of the year they are applying.

Doctors in training from all specialties are welcome. You are required to have completed to have completed both years of your foundation training by the start of the programme, which will commence annually from the 1st September.

Training

Successful candidates take up the fellowship as an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE, or equivalent). You will then be seconded from your employer to your new organisation as a clinical fellow.
