For day one of this year’s Annual Congress we were pleased to have been joined by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh.
Her Royal Highness, who has a keen interest in advancing vision care and supporting global efforts to reduce preventable blindness, joined a session discussing the challenges of providing sufficient diabetic retinopathy screening and treatment services around the world.
The Duchess was escorted during her visit by College Chief Executive Ali Rivett along with President Professor Ben Burton. Following the discussion session, Her Royal Highness spent some time talking to the chairs, Nick Astbury and Cova Bascaran, and to Congress delegates including Scientific Committee Chair Sobha Sivaprasad and Girum Gessesse, President of the Ophthalmological Society of Ethiopia.
Around 1,200 delegates will attend this four-day flagship ophthalmology event in Liverpool. Its packed programme includes speeches, workshops and skills courses with a trade exhibition running alongside.
