The Wider Impacts of COVID-19 on Health (WICH) monitoring tool is designed to allow healthcare professionals to explore the indirect effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the population’s health and wellbeing.

WICH presents a range of health and wellbeing metrics in interactive plots that can be broken down to show differences between groups – for example, you can explore grocery purchasing habits by region or social class. WICH is updated monthly and may include the addition of new metrics as they become available. A summary has been included for WICH and is available to read.

This update shows monthly England counts to November 2021 for all vision outpatient attendances, all vision outpatient first attendances, cataract surgery (65+), first intravitreal injections (60+), intravitreal injections (60+) and retinal detachment (18+). To access the vision data  

  1. The WICH homepage
  2. To view the data, click on “Access to care” (top of the screen)
  3. Clicking on the “Access to Care” button ‘a’
  4. The “Theme” dropdown menu should be selected, and the “Hospital Activity” option selected
  5. Clicking the dropdown menu “Subtheme” below will allow you to select “Vision”
