On occasion, healthcare organisations may have concerns regarding some aspects of delivery of an ophthalmology service or they may wish to have an objective assessment of how their service is performing. Furthermore some services are looking to guide their quality improvement efforts and would like an external opinion of the areas of performance that are most in need of improvement.
The review service offered by The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (the RCOphth) aims to promote the highest standards in ophthalmic care. With an in-depth knowledge of standards and service models, the RCOphth can support healthcare organisations to deliver more sustainable services, improved outcomes for patients and more effective working practices.
This document defines the operational and governance processes of the RCOphth review service and should be used by ophthalmologists, trusts and healthcare provider organisations as a guide to the services the RCOphth is able to provide.
