Professor Harminder S Dua CBE has been appointed as the new editor-in-chief of Eye, the College’s flagship scientific journal.
Starting a five-year term from January 2026, Harminder (pictured) will lead the development of the journal and, along with editorial board members, ensure that it continues to promote high quality content that advances the science and practice of ophthalmology.
Harminder Dua, a former President of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, is Chair and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Nottingham, as well as a consultant ophthalmologist at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, Honorary Professor of Universita della Svizzera, Lugano, Switzerland and Honorary Professor, Research Institute of Ophthalmology, Cairo, Egypt.
Commenting on his appointment, Harminder said: “Eye is the flagship publication of the College and an international scientific journal in its own right. Taking on the mantle of editor-in-chief, following on the indelible footsteps of previous editors, is a privilege and honour for which I express my gratitude. It’s a huge responsibility that I am conscious of and an exciting challenge that I intend to grasp with the help and contributions from the editorial board, from colleagues across the world and from the entire global membership of the College.”
Harminder takes over from the current editor-in-chief Professor Sobha Sivaprasad, who has held the post since 2018 and who oversaw the launch of Eye’s sibling journal, Eye Open. She said: “It is my great pleasure to welcome Harminder as the new editor-in-chief. He is a giant in ophthalmology and has a wealth of experience as editor-in-chief.
“After more than five years of exponential growth of Eye in the midst of post-pandemic turbulence and introduction of correction factors to assessing the impact factor of journals, I am optimistic that we have reached a steady state for Harminder to take the journal to new heights.”
