The Medical Training Initiative (MTI) closed to new applicants on 31 March 2026.
While enormously beneficial for doctors from low and middle income countries, hospitals in the UK and patients around the world, NHS England has taken the decision to end the current scheme.
The doctors currently on placements in the UK will not be affected and of course will be able to complete their two-year attachment.
