Ophthalmology is a small but highly competitive medical and surgical specialty. Ophthalmologists work with other medical and healthcare professions, often leading the multidisciplinary team.
The RCOphth receives safety alerts from healthcare organisations, regulatory bodies and industry. We provide recommendations and advice in response to the alerts.
All practising ophthalmic clinicians should be actively involved in clinical audit of their own and their service’s care. Find out how this data is used.
The Refraction Certificate is an exam which assesses competence in practical refraction, an essential requirement for ophthalmologists. This exam is part of the Fellowship examinations.
The RCOphth Council debates and makes decisions on the development of eye services, the profession and care of patients. The Regional Representatives are responsible for representing the views of members across the UK. Council Members are elected by the Fellows and Members of their region.
